Ryedale (UK Parliament Constituency) - Boundaries

Boundaries

The constituency was created in 1983 and was largely based on the previous Thirsk and Malton constituency. The constituency underwent the only boundary changes of its 17-year existence for the 1997 general election, when the areas surrounding Easingwold and the York suburbs of Haxby, Wigginton, New Earswick, Rawcliffe, Skelton and Clifton Without were transferred to the new Vale of York constituency, as well as Osbaldwick and Heworth Without ward being added from the Selby constituency.

At the time of its abolition in 2010, the constituency covered Ryedale (including Malton, Norton-on-Derwent, Helmsley and Pickering), Filey and the north eastern suburbs of York (including Huntington, Strensall, Osbaldwick and Heworth Without).

Famous quotes containing the word boundaries:

Ideas are not thoughts; the thought respects the boundaries that the idea ignores thereby failing to realize itself.
    Franz Grillparzer (1791–1872)

Not too many years ago, a child’s experience was limited by how far he or she could ride a bicycle or by the physical boundaries that parents set. Today ... the real boundaries of a child’s life are set more by the number of available cable channels and videotapes, by the simulated reality of videogames, by the number of megabytes of memory in the home computer. Now kids can go anywhere, as long as they stay inside the electronic bubble.
    Richard Louv (20th century)

The boundaries which divide Life from Death are at best shadowy and vague. Who shall say where the one ends, and where the other begins?
    Edgar Allan Poe (1809–1845)
