He has adopted four boys and later had his own son. As he raised his own children they seemed to be bored with their own lives, he took moments of their lives and successfully put them into action adventure books to show them how exciting their own lives actually were. The original Life and Times of Jeremy Ruhl was written in 1979-1980 and consisted of over 1200 pages. Publishers broke down the book into three original sections.
