Russian Space Forces

The Russian Space Forces (Russian: Космические войска России, Kosmicheskie Voyska Rossii) was the branch of the Russian Military responsible for military space operations. Established on August 10, 1992, following the breakup of the Soviet Union and the creation of the Russian Armed Forces, the organisation shared control of the Baikonur Cosmodrome with the Russian Federal Space Agency. It also operated the Plesetsk and the Svobodny Cosmodromes. On 1 December 2011, it was replaced by the Russian Aerospace Defence Forces.

Famous quotes containing the words russian, space and/or forces:

Annie: Dances like Pavaliver, that child.
    George Grainger: Dances like who?
Annie: Pavaliver—the Russian dancer. Don’t be so ignorant.
    Reginald Berkeley (1890–1935)

Sir Walter Raleigh might well be studied, if only for the excellence of his style, for he is remarkable in the midst of so many masters. There is a natural emphasis in his style, like a man’s tread, and a breathing space between the sentences, which the best of modern writing does not furnish. His chapters are like English parks, or say rather like a Western forest, where the larger growth keeps down the underwood, and one may ride on horseback through the openings.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Example moves the world more than doctrine. The great exemplars are the poets of action, and it makes little difference whether they be forces for good or forces for evil.
    Henry Miller (1891–1980)
