Russian Checkers

Russian draughts (also known as Shashki or Russian shashki) is a variant of draughts (checkers) played in some parts in Russia and some parts of the former USSR, as well as parts of Eastern Europe and Israel. The variant is also known as Pool Checkers or American Pool Checkers in the United States, where it is played completively, chiefly by African Americans in the South and in some large cities.

Famous quotes containing the word russian:

A criminal trial is like a Russian novel: it starts with exasperating slowness as the characters are introduced to a jury, then there are complications in the form of minor witnesses, the protagonist finally appears and contradictions arise to produce drama, and finally as both jury and spectators grow weary and confused the pace quickens, reaching its climax in passionate final argument.
    Clifford Irving (b. 1930)
