Russell Diethrick Park

Russell Diethrick Park is a stadium in Jamestown, New York. It opened in 1941 and holds 4,200 people. Primarily used for baseball, the stadium is the home field of the Jamestown Jammers (New York-Penn League) Jamestown Community College baseball teams, and at times the Jamestown High School's baseball team. It also has hosted multiple Babe Ruth League World Series, most recently the 13-Year-Old World Series in 2008 won by a team from Bryant, Arkansas.The stadium was built as Jamestown Municipal Stadium, and hosted the Jamestown Falcons in their time of the minor leagues. It was then dedicated as College Stadium, for the use of JCC's Baseball team. Then the Niagara Falls Rapids re-located to Jamestown, and the new home team was the Jamestown Jammers. Then on the eve of the 1997 Babe Ruth World Series August 9, 1997 and the same day Parks Director, and the person who brought the Babe Ruth 13 Year old World Series to Jamestown, Russel E. Diethrick Jr., was inducted into the hall of fame, the park was named Russell E. Diethrick Jr. Park. The saying was on that night, attendees walked into College Stadium and left Diethrick Park. The park continues to be the home of the Jamestown Jammers.

In 1990, College Stadium was the site of a memorable large-scale stunt by the TV series Candid Camera, in which a catcher for the then-tenant Jamestown Expos was put up to calling pitches with nothing but incomprehensible signs.

Famous quotes containing the words russell and/or park:

    A stranger came one night to Yussouf’s tent,
    Saying, “Behold one outcast and in dread,
    Against whose life the bow of power is bent,
    Who flies, and hath not where to lay his head;
    I come to thee for shelter and for food,
    To Yussouf, called through all our tribes ‘he Good.’ “

    “This tent is mine,” said Yussouf, “but no more
    Than it is God’s; come in, and be at peace;
    —James Russell Lowell (1819–1891)

    The label of liberalism is hardly a sentence to public igominy: otherwise Bruce Springsteen would still be rehabilitating used Cadillacs in Asbury Park and Jane Fonda, for all we know, would be just another overweight housewife.
    Barbara Ehrenreich (b. 1941)
