History
Prior to playing at the Rubber Bowl, the Zips football teams played at Buchtel Field.
The Rubber Bowl has hosted 324 Akron Zips football games, 19 preseason Cleveland Browns games, three NFL regular-season games, over 1,500 high school games (including several Ohio High School Athletic Association playoff games), soccer matches, concerts and shows.
In the summer of 1988, the stadium played host to Van Halen's "Monsters of Rock" tour. The show was headlined by Van Halen and featured Metallica on the bill as well. In 1998, Ozzfest was held at the Rubber Bowl instead of its normal Akron/Cleveland venue, the Blossom Music Center.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“When the landscape buckles and jerks around, when a dust column of debris rises from the collapse of a block of buildings on bodies that could have been your own, when the staves of history fall awry and the barrel of time bursts apart, some turn to prayer, some to poetry: words in the memory, a stained book carried close to the body, the notebook scribbled by handa center of gravity.”
—Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
“Most events recorded in history are more remarkable than important, like eclipses of the sun and moon, by which all are attracted, but whose effects no one takes the trouble to calculate.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“The history of work has been, in part, the history of the workers body. Production depended on what the body could accomplish with strength and skill. Techniques that improve output have been driven by a general desire to decrease the pain of labor as well as by employers intentions to escape dependency upon that knowledge which only the sentient laboring body could provide.”
—Shoshana Zuboff (b. 1951)
