Roy Carroll - International Career

International Career

Carroll gained his first of 24 international caps on 21 May 1997 in a game against Thailand. For many years Carroll has fought a losing battle to be Northern Ireland's first choice keeper to the experienced Maik Taylor. After a six-year absence from the international team, Carroll was named in the friendly squad to face the Netherlands on 2 June 2012. He came on as a substitute for the second half, letting in two goals as Northern Ireland lost 6–0. He made his competitive return to the Northern Ireland team on 7 September 2012, when he started in Northern Ireland's 2–0 defeat away to Russia in their opening qualifier for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Famous quotes containing the word career:

Each of the professions means a prejudice. The necessity for a career forces every one to take sides. We live in the age of the overworked, and the under-educated; the age in which people are so industrious that they become absolutely stupid.
    Oscar Wilde (1854–1900)
