Famous quotes containing the words general and/or assembly:

“To judge from a single conversation, he made the impression of a narrow and very English mind; of one who paid for his rare elevation by general tameness and conformity. Off his own beat, his opinions were of no value.”
    —Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

“Our assembly being now formed not by ourselves but by the goodwill and sprightly imagination of our readers, we have nothing to do but to draw up the curtain ... and to discover our chief personage on the stage.”
    —Sarah Fielding (1710–1768)
