The game has received generally very positive reviews, scoring 83/100 on MetaCritic, indicating generally favorable reviews, which include an 8.0/10 from GameSpot and an 8.7/10 from IGN.
Rogue Galaxy was the top-selling video game in Japan during the week ending December 11, 2005 with approximately 237,631 units sold, barely beating out the popular Mario Kart DS. Famitsu reported that by the end of 2006, the game had sold 356,192 units in the region. The magazine also noted that Rogue Galaxy: Director's Cut was the 403rd best-selling game in Japan during 2007, selling 29,457 units.
