International Career

Palacio's performances for Boca got the attention of Argentine national coach José Pekerman, he debuted for Argentina on 9 March 2005 in a 1–1 draw against Mexico. On 26 March 2005 he played in a 2–1 win against Bolivia in a World Cup qualifier. On 15 May 2006, Palacio was named as a definite squad member for the 2006 World Cup by coach José Pekerman and on 10 June he came on as a 60th minute substitute in Argentina's 2–1 win in their opening group stage match against Côte d'Ivoire.

On 15 June 2008 during a World Cup qualifier, Palacio was substituted on to the field in the 85th minute and scored an equalizer in the 93rd minute against Ecuador in a 1–1 draw. Three days later, on 18 June 2008 he was also substituted onto the field in the 90th minute against Brazil, however, the match ended at 0–0.
