South County Middle School is located in Lorton. It opened in September 2012 as a stand-alone middle school with a capacity of 1,350 students on a 40-acre site. From 2005 to June 2012, 7th and 8th grade students were enrolled at South County Secondary School (now South County High School), which housed both middle and high school programs. The school mascot is the Mustangs, and the school colors are green, blue, and burgundy.
