Professional Activities
Drost joined Sun Microsystems in 1993 after obtaining a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. In 2001 he earned a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Stanford. As of 2011 he is a holder of over 95 patents in microelectronics.
Until 2010, Drost was a Distinguished Engineer and Senior Director of Advanced Hardware at Sun Microsystems. He led the early efforts on a high-speed chip I/O technology called proximity communication, which replaces wires by capacitive coupling, promising significant increase in communications speed between chips in an electronic system and reduced energy consumption, latency, and system size.
Since 2010, Drost has been with Pluribus Networks, a Palo Alto based startup that he co-founded with Sunay Tripathi and Chih-Kong Ken Yang and that is revolutionizing next generation networking hardware and software platforms.

Famous quotes containing the words professional and/or activities:
“Men seem more bound to the wheel of success than women do. That women are trained to get satisfaction from affiliation rather than achievement has tended to keep them from great achievement. But it has also freed them from unreasonable expectations about the satisfactions that professional achievement brings.”
—Phyllis Rose (b. 1942)
“Minds do not act together in public; they simply stick together; and when their private activities are resumed, they fly apart again.”
—Frank Moore Colby (18651925)
