Robbie Mears - Australia

Australia

Mears joined the Eastern Suburbs Roosters in 1994 and made his first grade debut in Round 14, coming off the bench against the Cronulla Sharks. However over the next three seasons Mears was only used sporadically by the club and he made just nine more appearances for the Roosters.

Looking for more first grade opportunities, Mears joined the Canterbury Bulldogs in 1997. He started in reserve grade but got an opportunity to play first grade when Jason Hetherington went down injured. In 1998 he was a regular in the reserve grade team and played in the side that defeated the Parramatta Eels's in the Grand Final.

Famous quotes containing the word australia:

I like Australia less and less. The hateful newness, the democratic conceit, every man a little pope of perfection.
    —D.H. (David Herbert)

It is very considerably smaller than Australia and British Somaliland put together. As things stand at present there is nothing much the Texans can do about this, and ... they are inclined to shy away from the subject in ordinary conversation, muttering defensively about the size of oranges.
Alex Atkinson, British humor writer. repr. In Present Laughter, ed. Alan Coren (1982)
