Rob Diament - Art

Art

Diament has mentioned in interviews that another passion for him is modern and contemporary art. He is a patron of public art spaces in London including South London Gallery, Chisenhale Gallery, The Showroom, Studio Voltaire, Camden Arts Centre where he supports the Outset Residency Programme, and also Institute of Contemporary Arts, performing live at their 2010 fundraising gala.

He is an art collector with a keen interest particularly in women in art. Between 2008-2012, Diament loaned works from his collection by artists such as Tracey Emin to public galleries in Europe including Tate Britain, Hayward Gallery, Turner Contemporary, Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga and Kunstmuseum Bern. In June 2011, Modern Painters magazine listed Diament as one of their 50 under 50, an annual list of young art collectors from around the world.

In 2010, Diament began working as a gallerist with Carl Freedman Gallery, a contemporary art gallery based in East London.

Famous quotes containing the word art:

The art of leadership ... consists in consolidating the attention of the people against a single adversary and taking care that nothing will split up that attention.... The leader of genius must have the ability to make different opponents appear as if they belonged to one category.
    Adolf Hitler (1889–1945)

Blessed be the inventor of photography! I set him above even the inventor of chloroform! It has given more positive pleasure to poor suffering humanity than anything else that has “cast up” in my time or is like to—this art by which even the “poor” can possess themselves of tolerable likenesses of their absent dear ones. And mustn’t it be acting favourably on the morality of the country?
    Jane Welsh Carlyle (1801–1866)

It’s important as a writer to do my art well and do it in a way that is powerful and beautiful and meaningful, so that my work regenerates the people, certainly Indian people, and the earth and the sun. And in that way we all continue forever.
    Joy Harjo (b. 1951)
