Mahatma Gandhi Road- MG Road Pune
This road is the commercial hub of Pune Cantonment. It starts where the Moledina Road ends, in the Ambedkar Square. It leads onto East Street at Shankarshet Road, which later becomes the Pune-Sholapur-Hyderabad highway. Like most of the major roads in the city, the MG road is a one way i.e one can only travel from the direction of Shankershet Road towards Ambedkar Square. Saturday evenings are very busy and you can find well-off young people in their best clothes thronging the place. Earlier, every weekend from 5 to 9pm, the road used to be cordoned off and no vehicles were allowed, thus making it a pedestrian area popularly known as Walking Plaza. However, the vehicle restrictions have been removed now. Recently, it was made into a Wi-Fi zone so that people on the road can access the Internet.
Aurora Towers is an important commercial building and landmark. Running parallel to this road is East Street. It is far less crowded though almost equally well to do. Many old and well-known shops, restaurants, bakeries and medical or optical practices are based here.

Famous quotes containing the words gandhi and/or road:
“Even if I died in the service of the nation, I would be proud of it. Every drop of my blood ... will contribute to the growth of this nation and to make it strong and dynamic.”
—Indira Gandhi (19171984)
“Evil can be got very easily and exists in quantity: the road to her is very smooth, and she lives near by. But between us and virtue the gods have placed the sweat of our brows; the road to her is long and steep, and it is rough at first; but when a man has reached the top, then she is easy to attain, although before she was hard.”
—Hesiod (c. 8th century B.C.)
