History
Rich's, founded by Jerry Rich, had employees who often stayed for long periods of time. Beverly Raymond was a Supervisor of Cashiers for almost 30 years in the Nashua store. Her manager, Lorne Swindell, managed in Nashua for over 20 years, after a short stint with JM Fields.
The chain went bankrupt on March 14, 1996. Nearly 2,000 workers at the company's 26 stores in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont lost their jobs by late February 1997.
The Rich's Plaza in Gilford, NH was purchased by Walmart in 1997, becoming Walmart Plaza, with Walmart occupying the same store as Rich's. This became one of the smallest Walmart stores in the U.S. Other stores that occupied the Walmart Plaza (formerly Rich's Plaza) include Hannaford (formerly Shop N' Save), Fashion Bug, Payless Shoe Store, and Olympia Sports.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“The history is always the same the product is always different and the history interests more than the product. More, that is, more. Yes. But if the product was not different the history which is the same would not be more interesting.”
—Gertrude Stein (18741946)
“In front of these sinister facts, the first lesson of history is the good of evil. Good is a good doctor, but Bad is sometimes a better.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“Throughout the history of commercial life nobody has ever quite liked the commission man. His function is too vague, his presence always seems one too many, his profit looks too easy, and even when you admit that he has a necessary function, you feel that this function is, as it were, a personification of something that in an ethical society would not need to exist. If people could deal with one another honestly, they would not need agents.”
—Raymond Chandler (18881959)
