Photographer, Painter, Poet
Bartholomew pursued a career not only as an art critic but also as a writer, poet, painter and curator. Solo shows of his work were held in Delhi and Bombay in the 50s. Between then and the ‘70s, he keenly documented life around him through photography. Though he rarely exhibited his photographic work during his lifetime, his pictures intimately portrayed his family and his circle of artist friends and associates and his travels in India and the US.

Famous quotes containing the word poet:
“To be a poet is to have a soul so quick to discern, that no shade of quality escapes it, and so quick to feel, that discernment is but a hand playing with finely-ordered variety on the chords of emotiona soul in which knowledge passes instantaneously into feeling, and feeling flashes back as a new organ of knowledge. One may have that condition by fits only.”
—George Eliot [Mary Ann (or Marian)
