Gannon's father-in-law is former Minnesota Vikings running back Bill Brown. Gannon and his wife Shelley have two daughters, Alexis and Danielle, and the family lives in Excelsior, Minnesota near Lake Minnetonka. As Danielle has been diagnosed with celiac disease, Rich and Shelley Gannon serve as national spokespeople for the Celiac Disease Foundation and organize an annual Celiac Walk at Holy Family Catholic High School in Victoria, Minnesota. Gannon is a Catholic.
