The airport is part of federal government Essential Air Service program. Delta cut its service to the airport in 2011, and Frontier, which inherited service from Midwest Airlines, sought to cancel its flights, too, but in accordance with the EAS program Frontier could not cut the only remaining service. In 2012, Delta Connection carrier SkyWest bid for and won the EAS contract, and replaced Frontier as the airport's only commercial carrier on January 3, 2013.
