Software and Logic Control
Modern RTUs are usually capable of executing simple programs autonomously without involving the host computers of the DCS or SCADA system to simplify deployment, and to provide redundancy for safety reasons. An RTU in a modern water management system will typically have code to modify its behavior when physical override switches on the RTU are toggled during maintenance by maintenance personnel. This is done for safety reasons; a miscommunication between the system operators and the maintenance personnel could cause system operators to mistakenly enable power to a water pump when it is being replaced, for example.

Famous quotes containing the words logic and/or control:
“Our argument ... will result, not upon logic by itselfthough without logic we should never have got to this pointbut upon the fortunate contingent fact that people who would take this logically possible view, after they had really imagined themselves in the other mans position, are extremely rare.”
—Richard M. Hare (b. 1919)
“Our culture still holds mothers almost exclusively responsible when things go wrong with the kids. Sensing this ultimate accountability, women are understandably reluctant to give up control or veto power. If the finger of blame was eventually going to point in your direction, wouldnt you be?”
—Ron Taffel (20th century)
