Remote Database Access - Purpose

Purpose

RDA describes the connection of a database client to a database server. It includes features for

  • communicating database operations and parameters from the client to the server,
  • in return, transporting result data from the server to the client,
  • database transaction management.

RDA is an application-level protocol, inasmuch that it builds on an existing network connection between client and server. In the case of TCP/IP connections, RFC 1066 is used for implementing RDA.

Famous quotes containing the word purpose:

The very purpose of existence is to reconcile the glowing opinion we have of ourselves with the appalling things that other people think about us.
    Quentin Crisp (b. 1908)

As the purpose of comedy is to correct the vices of men, I see no reason why anyone should be exempt.
    Molière [Jean Baptiste Poquelin] (1622–1673)

There are a sort of men whose visages
Do cream and mantle like a standing pond,
And do a willful stillness entertain,
With purpose to be dressed in an opinion
    Of wisdom, gravity, profound conceit,
As who should say, “I am Sir Oracle,
And when I ope my lips let no dog bark!”
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
