Famous quotes containing the words lady, hope and/or story:

To think, that only yesterday we were pulling her hair and buttoning her pinafore. And now she’s a grown-up married lady with a bustle.
    Victor Heerman (1893–1977)

It is cruel for you to leave your daughter, so full of hope and resolve, to suffer the humiliations of disfranchisement she already feels so keenly, and which she will find more and more galling as she grows into the stronger and grander woman she is sure to be. If it were your son who for any cause was denied his right to have his opinion counted, you would compass sea and land to lift the ban from him.
    Susan B. Anthony (1820–1906)

So every journey that I make
Leads me, as in the story he was led,
To some new ambush, to some fresh mistake:
So every journey I begin foretells
    A weariness of daybreak, spread
    With carrion kisses, carrion farewells.
    Philip Larkin (1922–1986)
