Reedy Island is a small island in the middle of the channel of the Delaware River near its mouth on Delaware Bay in the U.S. state of Delaware. It is located approximately 1 mi (1.6 km) east of Port Penn, Delaware and 5 mi (8 km) southwest of Salem, New Jersey.
The island was the location of Reedy Island Range Front Light. The Reedy Island Range Rear light, in nearby Taylors Bridge, is a historic lighthouse first established in 1910. The light is operated by the United States Coast Guard. The nearby keeper's house was destroyed by arson in 2002.
Famous quotes containing the word island:
“An island always pleases my imagination, even the smallest, as a small continent and integral portion of the globe. I have a fancy for building my hut on one. Even a bare, grassy isle, which I can see entirely over at a glance, has some undefined and mysterious charm for me.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
