Sydney Swans
At the turn of the 21st century, the Sydney Swans also implemented a recycled player policy. Since the late 1990s, the Swans turned to a policy of giving up top draft picks in exchange for players from other clubs, they included, amongst others: Paul Williams, Barry Hall, Craig Bolton, Darren Jolly, Ted Richards, Peter Everitt, Martin Mattner, Rhyce Shaw, Shane Mumford, Ben McGlynn, Josh P. Kennedy and Mitch Morton. At the same time, Sydney only had two top ten draft picks (Jarrad McVeigh in 2002 and Gary Rohan in 2009). All of the players Sydney recycled from other clubs then became regulars in their starting line-up and often performed better at Sydney than at their original clubs (for example, Shane Mumford, who made his AFL debut during Geelong's glory days did not play in their 2009 AFL Grand Final triumph).

Famous quotes containing the word swans:
“Holland is a dream, Monsieur, a dream of gold and smokesmokier by day, more gilded by night. And night and day that dream is peopled with Lohengrins like these, dreamily riding their black bicycles with high handle-bars, funereal swans constantly drifting throughout the whole country, around the seas, along the canals.”
—Albert Camus (19131960)
