Later Years
Ten years later, Joranum's former follower, Gambol Deen Namarti, has re-started the conspiracy under the leadership of Gleb Andorin, planning that he will become Emperor with Andorin as First Minister. Seldon sends Raych to join the Joranumite movement under an alias. But he is recognised and drugged with 'desperance', a drug which increases induces depression and reduces his willpower. He is forced to obey orders.
He is infiltrated into a group of newly-recruited gardeners for the grounds of the Imperial palace, and forced to use a blaster on his father, Hari Seldon.
Manella Dubanqua, an undercover security officer working within the Joranumite organisation, saves Raych by killing Andorin; Raych is saved from having to kill his father.

Famous quotes containing the word years:
“Neither years nor books have yet availed to extirpate a prejudice then rooted in me, that a scholar is the favorite of Heaven and earth, the excellency of his country, the happiest of men. His duties lead him directly into the holy ground where other mens aspirations only point. His successes are occasions of the purest joy to all men. Eyes is he to the blind; feet is he to the lame. His failures, if he is worthy, are inlets to higher advantages.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“On a late-winter evening in 1983, while driving through fog along the Maine coast, recollections of old campfires began to drift into the March mist, and I thought of the Abnaki Indians of the Algonquin tribe who dwelt near Bangor a thousand years ago.”
—Norman Mailer (b. 1923)
