Raul Julia-Levy - Humanitarianism

Humanitarianism

On 12 May 2007, Julia-Levy and Spanish tenor and conductor Plácido Domingo were both honored at a UNESCO world conference and gala in Cologne, Germany, for their individual contributions to cultural and human rights throughout Europe and the Americas.

"I think that most entertainers have a political or an activist side. Some express themselves and some don't," Julia-Levy said in an interview with Exceptional People Magazine. "In my case, I am involved with the political and cultural aspects of Mexico with emphasis on the future of our youth and preservation of the indigenous groups of Mexico."

According to the National Commission for the Development of the Indigenous Peoples, there are an estimated 12 million indigenous men, women and children in Mexico of varied ethnic groups. These members of Mexico's original foundation constitute between 11 percent and 13 percent of the country's entire population.
