Early Life and Pre-porn Career
West grew up in New York City, and later moved to South Florida. He originally hoped to play professional baseball (though he did play baseball for the University of Miami), but he instead decided to pursue a career as a singer. He was lead singer for several rock bands over the course of ten years, and also worked as a nude art model. He then moved to California in 1979. Randy was also a member of Chippendale's dance company, and worked as stripper at private events from 1980 to 1992. For porn he went with the name Randy West instead of his original name.

Famous quotes containing the words early, life and/or career:
“The Americans never use the word peasant, because they have no idea of the class which that term denotes; the ignorance of more remote ages, the simplicity of rural life, and the rusticity of the villager have not been preserved among them; and they are alike unacquainted with the virtues, the vices, the coarse habits, and the simple graces of an early stage of civilization.”
—Alexis de Tocqueville (1805–1859)
“Above the forest of the parakeets,
A parakeet of parakeets prevails,
A pip of life amid a mort of tails.”
—Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)
“In time your relatives will come to accept the idea that a career is as important to you as your family. Of course, in time the polar ice cap will melt.”
—Barbara Dale (b. 1940)
