Ranan R. Lurie (born May 26, 1932) is an American Israeli editorial cartoonist and journalist. He is a Senior Associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a member of the United Nation Correspondents Association, and the editor of Cartoon News magazine.
Lurie became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1974.
Lurie lives in Greenwich, Connecticut with his wife, a real estate manager. He is the father of film and television director and screenwriter Rod Lurie. Lurie is also a member of Mensa.
The Ranan Lurie Political Cartoon Awards were created in 2000 to recognize cartoons that "enhance, explain and help direct the spirit and principles of the UN." The awards are worth a total of $18,000.
Lurie appears twice in the Guinness Book of World Records: as the most widely syndicated political cartoonist in the world and as a member of the oldest traceable family in existence.
