Rana Sanga - Power Struggle

Power Struggle

In his youth Sanga had to rival with his elder brother Prithiraj. When a priestess announced that Sanga would rule Mewar, the furious Prithiraj drew his sword and a vicious fight ensued. Afterwards, Sanga fled on foot, one of his eyes destroyed forever. As a result, Prithiraj was banished from Chittor, and their younger brother Jaimall was then considered heir to the throne. Jaimall, however, was slain by the indignant father of the girl he had been courting. Later, Prithiraj was poisoned by his brother-in-law whom he had punished for maltreating his sister. This left Sanga to ascend their father's throne.

Famous quotes containing the words power and/or struggle:

One cannot demand of a scholar that he show himself a scholar everywhere in society, but the whole tenor of his behavior must none the less betray the thinker, he must always be instructive, his way of judging a thing must even in the smallest matters be such that people can see what it will amount to when, quietly and self-collected, he puts this power to scholarly use.
    —G.C. (Georg Christoph)

By intervening in the Vietnamese struggle the United States was attempting to fit its global strategies into a world of hillocks and hamlets, to reduce its majestic concerns for the containment of communism and the security of the Free World to a dimension where governments rose and fell as a result of arguments between two colonels’ wives.
    Frances Fitzgerald (b. 1940)
