Rafael Merry Del Val
Rafael Merry del Val y de Zulueta (10 October 1865 – 26 February 1930), Servant of God, was a British-born Spanish Roman Catholic cardinal. Before becoming a cardinal, he served as secretary of the conclave that elected Saint Pius X, who is said to have accepted his election as Pope through Merry del Val's encouragement. Pius X later appointed him as the Cardinal Secretary of State. Merry del Val composed the Litany of Humility. A cause for his canonization was opened in 1953.

Famous quotes containing the word merry:
“When icicles hang by the wall,
And Dick the shepherd blows his nail,
And Tom bears logs into the hall,
And milk comes frozen home in pail;
When blood is nipped, and ways be foul,
Then nightly sings the staring owl:
Tu-whit, tu-whoo!
A merry note,
While greasy Joan doth keel the pot.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
