Programming

National's weekday output between 06:00 and midnight is characterized by the alternation of three extended news and current-affairs sequences – running for between one and three hours each – with three varied-content magazine-style programmes, each of which lasts for three to five hours.

The news operation is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

A team of specialist correspondents, reporters and regional correspondents operate from 12 newsrooms around the country, including large teams in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Radio New Zealand News draws on the expertise of specialist correspondents in politics, health, social issues, the economy, education, Maori issues, Pacific issues, business and rural affairs. It has an office in the parliamentary gallery. International news is sourced primarily from international news agencies.

Famous quotes containing the word programming:

If there is a price to pay for the privilege of spending the early years of child rearing in the driver’s seat, it is our reluctance, our inability, to tolerate being demoted to the backseat. Spurred by our success in programming our children during the preschool years, we may find it difficult to forgo in later states the level of control that once afforded us so much satisfaction.
    Melinda M. Marshall (20th century)
