Radford Semele - St Nicholas Church

St Nicholas Church

St Nicholas Church, a Grade II listed building, was discovered to be on fire on 16 March 2008 and all that remains is the tower and shell of the building. The fire was initially not considered suspicious, however since there is evidence that there was a break in on the night of the fire, it is believed to have been arson, following failed attempts at several other churches nearby.

The village also has a Baptist church (Radford Semele Baptist Church) www.rsbc.info which was built in 1874 and is still serving the village to this day.

Famous quotes containing the words nicholas and/or church:

Chanuka and St. Nicholas Day came almost together this year—just one day’s difference. We didn’t make much fuss about Chanuka: we just gave each other a few little presents and then we had the candles. Because of the shortage of candles we only had them alight for ten minutes, but it is all right as long as you have the song.
    Anne Frank (1929–1945)

Say, is there Beauty yet to find?
    And Certainty? And Quiet kind?
Deep meadows yet, for to forget
The lies, and truths, and pain? . . . oh!
Stands the Church clock at ten to three?
And is there honey still for tea?
    Rupert Brooke (1887–1915)
