History

A poorly preserved Roman Villa was excavated in 1974 at NGR SP 342624 near Pounce Hill Farm, approximately 1.5 km south of the village. See and .

The village is named after a family from Saint-Pierre-de-Semilly in Normandy - they were lords of the manor in around 1120.

The old Weedon to Leamington railway line used to run through the village but in the late 1960s the line was closed to passengers. The site of where the old line used to be is now a new cycleway as part of The National Cycle Network.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

A great proportion of the inhabitants of the Cape are always thus abroad about their teaming on some ocean highway or other, and the history of one of their ordinary trips would cast the Argonautic expedition into the shade.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

We said that the history of mankind depicts man; in the same way one can maintain that the history of science is science itself.
    Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe (1749–1832)

They are a sort of post-house,where the Fates
Change horses, making history change its tune,
Then spur away o’er empires and o’er states,
Leaving at last not much besides chronology,
    Excepting the post-obits of theology.
    George Gordon Noel Byron (1788–1824)
