Types of Rab Proteins
There are approximately 70 different Rabs that have been identified in humans thus far. They are mostly involved in vesicle trafficking. Their complexity can be understood if thought of as address labels for vesicle trafficking, defining the identity and routing of vesicles.
Name | Subcellular location |
---|---|
RAB1 (YPT1) | ER, golgi complex |
RAB2 | ER, cis-golgi network |
RAB3A | secretory and synaptic vesicles |
RAB4 | early endosomes |
RAB5A | clathrin-coated vesicles, plasma membranes |
RAB5C | early endosomes |
RAB6 | medial- and trans-golgi network |
RAB7 | late endosomes |
RAB8 | basolateral secretory vesicles |
RAB9 | late endosome, trans-golgi network |
RAB11 | recycling endosomes |
RAB18 | lipid droplets, golgi, endoplasmic reticulum |
RAB39a | binds Caspase-1 in inflammasome |
SEC4 | secretory vesicles |

Famous quotes containing the words types of, types and/or proteins:
“The wider the range of possibilities we offer children, the more intense will be their motivations and the richer their experiences. We must widen the range of topics and goals, the types of situations we offer and their degree of structure, the kinds and combinations of resources and materials, and the possible interactions with things, peers, and adults.”
—Loris Malaguzzi (19201994)
“... there are two types of happiness and I have chosen that of the murderers. For I am happy. There was a time when I thought I had reached the limit of distress. Beyond that limit, there is a sterile and magnificent happiness.”
—Albert Camus (19131960)
“Civilization means food and literature all round. Beefsteaks and fiction magazines for all. First-class proteins for the body, fourth-class love-stories for the spirit.”
—Aldous Huxley (18941963)
