Allmusic reviewer Stephen Thomas Erlewine called Queer "an ambitious effort, but it isn't entirely successful", noting that "you can hear the group work to re-establish themselves as artists." Writing for Rovi, Erlewine noted that Queer "was ignored in both the U.S. and the U.K."
