The Quds Force (alternatively spelled Ghods or Qods) (Persian: نیروی قدس, translit. Niru-ye Qods, "Jerusalem Force") is a special unit of Iran's Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution (Revolutionary Guard). It has been tasked with "exporting" Iran's Islamic revolution, and is responsible for "extraterritorial operations" of the Revolutionary Guard.
The Quds Force reports directly to the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Its commander is Major General Qassem Suleimani. While "little is reliably known" about the force, as of 2007, its size was estimated at 15,000 troops.

Famous quotes containing the word force:
“For those parents from lower-class and minority communities ... [who] have had minimal experience in negotiating dominant, external institutions or have had negative and hostile contact with social service agencies, their initial approaches to the school are often overwhelming and difficult. Not only does the school feel like an alien environment with incomprehensible norms and structures, but the families often do not feel entitled to make demands or force disagreements.”
