Quartic Interaction

Quartic Interaction

This article refers to a type of self-interaction in scalar field theory, a topic in quantum field theory. Other types of quartic interactions may be found under the topic of four-fermion interactions. A classical free scalar field φ satisfies the Klein-Gordon equation. If a scalar field is denoted φ, a quartic interaction is represented by adding a potential term . The coupling constant λ is dimensionless in 4-dimensional space-time.

This article uses the (+−−−) metric signature for Minkowski space.

Famous quotes containing the word interaction:

UG [universal grammar] may be regarded as a characterization of the genetically determined language faculty. One may think of this faculty as a ‘language acquisition device,’ an innate component of the human mind that yields a particular language through interaction with present experience, a device that converts experience into a system of knowledge attained: knowledge of one or another language.
