Puwersa Ng Masa - Election Results

Election Results

The results of the elections were greatly affected by the turbulent days in the late days of the month of April and early days of the month of May, leading to EDSA III rebellion by thousands of pro-Estrada followers who mobbed MalacaƱan Palace during the early hours of May 1, 2001. Some believe that some senatorial candidates urged the people to rise against the government that led to the bloody May 1 Riots in Manila. As a result, the senatorial candidates paid their price by winning only 5 out of 13 possible seats in the Senate.

The winners from the opposition were:

  • Edgardo Angara
  • Noli de Castro
  • Luisa Estrada
  • Gregorio Honasan
  • Panfilo Lacson

Famous quotes containing the words election and/or results:

He hung out of the window a long while looking up and down the street. The world’s second metropolis. In the brick houses and the dingy lamplight and the voices of a group of boys kidding and quarreling on the steps of a house opposite, in the regular firm tread of a policeman, he felt a marching like soldiers, like a sidewheeler going up the Hudson under the Palisades, like an election parade, through long streets towards something tall white full of colonnades and stately. Metropolis.
    John Dos Passos (1896–1970)

For every life and every act
Consequence of good and evil can be shown
And as in time results of many deeds are blended
So good and evil in the end become confounded.
    —T.S. (Thomas Stearns)
