Purdue Grand Prix - Social Event

Social Event

Though the actual race is held on a Saturday, associated festivities begin the weekend before resulting an entire week of parties and other events, both sanctioned and unsanctioned. A newer tradition which precedes the race itself is the Breakfast Club. Early on the morning of the race, local bars re-open to hordes of costume-clad students and alumni. Screwdrivers and other alcoholic drinks are served to patrons dressed in a variety of costumes, the more outrageous or inventive the better.

Grand Prix is also a large event for alumni who often return to campus for the weekend.

Famous quotes containing the words social and/or event:

...every woman who has any margin of time or money to spare should adopt some one public interest, some philanthropic undertaking, or some social agitation of reform, and give to that cause whatever time and work she may be able to afford ...
    Frances Power Cobbe (1822–1904)

When we awoke, we found a heavy dew on our blankets. I lay awake very early, and listened to the clear, shrill ah, te te, te te, te of the white-throated sparrow, repeated at short intervals, without the least variation, for half an hour, as if it could not enough express its happiness. Whether my companions heard it or not, I know not, but it was a kind of matins to me, and the event of the forenoon.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
