SL does not themselves directly operate any traffic, instead all the traffic is handled by contractors. The contractors used by SL are as of January 2010 the following.

- Bus traffic in Södertälje, Bromma, Tyresö, Nacka/Värmdö, Huddinge/Botkyrka and Järfälla/Upplands Bro.
- Roslagståg
- Roslagsbanan.
- Stockholmståg
- Stockholm commuter rail.
- Tågia
- Maintenance, repairs, and modernization of rail cars of the railbound traffic.
- Veolia Transport
- Saltsjöbanan, Lidingöbanan, Nockebybanan, Tvärbanan.
