Prison Ship - Nazi Germany

Nazi Germany

Nazi Germany assembled a small fleet of ships in the Bay of Lübeck to hold concentration camp prisoners, almost certainly with the intention of disposing of the prisoners by scuttling the ships off-shore. The vessels involved of the passenger liners Cap Arcona and Deutschland, and the vessels Thielbek and Athen. All were destroyed on May 3 1945 by British aircraft; most of the inmates were either killed by bombing or strafing, burned alive, drowned while trying to reach the shore, or killed by the SS guards.

Famous quotes related to nazi germany:

Humor is not a mood but a way of looking at the world. So if it is correct to say that humor was stamped out in Nazi Germany, that does not mean that people were not in good spirits, or anything of that sort, but something much deeper and more important.
    Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889–1951)

What is most original in a man’s nature is often that which is most desperate. Thus new systems are forced on the world by men who simply cannot bear the pain of living with what is. Creators care nothing for their systems except that they be unique. If Hitler had been born in Nazi Germany he wouldn’t have been content to enjoy the atmosphere.
    Leonard Cohen (b. 1934)
