Accidents and Incidents

Although the airport is as close to the beach as it is, there have only been 2 major accidents.

  • 2 May 1970 – ALM Flight 980, crashed into the ocean in bad weather killing 22 of the 57 passengers in addition to one crew member. The cause was found to be fuel exhaustion due to several attempts to land the aircraft. The aircraft was not found.

Famous quotes containing the words accidents and/or incidents:

The day-laborer is reckoned as standing at the foot of the social scale, yet he is saturated with the laws of the world. His measures are the hours; morning and night, solstice and equinox, geometry, astronomy, and all the lovely accidents of nature play through his mind.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

An element of exaggeration clings to the popular judgment: great vices are made greater, great virtues greater also; interesting incidents are made more interesting, softer legends more soft.
    Walter Bagehot (1826–1877)
