Prevost Island - The Portlock Point Lighthouse

The Portlock Point Lighthouse

The Portlock Point Lighthouse, on the eastern extremity of the island, was built in 1895. It replaced a stake lighthouse built five years earlier. The light was automated the late 1960s and rebuilt in 1987. Portlock Point is now a part of Gulf Islands National Park Reserve.

Famous quotes containing the words point and/or lighthouse:

What we are, that only can we see. All that Adam had, all that Caesar could, you have and can do. Adam called his house, heaven and earth; Caesar called his house, Rome; you perhaps call yours, a cobbler’s trade; a hundred acres of ploughed land; or a scholar’s garret. Yet line for line and point for point, your dominion is as great as theirs, though without fine names. Build, therefore, your own world.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

It is the cry of a thousand sentinels, the echo from a thousand labyrinths; it is the lighthouse which cannot be hidden.
    —E.M. (Edward Morgan)
