Presbyterian Reformed Church (Australia)

The Presbyterian Reformed Church (PRC) is a Presbyterian denomination in Australia. The denomination was formed in 1967, when the leadership and majority of the members of the Sutherland, New South Wales congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Australia separated from that denomination. This separation was a result of a growing trend of theological liberalism within the Presbyterian Church of Australia (the mainstream Presbyterian Church), prior to the formation of the Uniting Church in Australia in 1977.

The PRC met for the first time on Sunday, 8 December 1967. Today it is made up of congregations in Queensland, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, South Australia, New Zealand, Vanuatu and Fiji.

Famous quotes containing the words presbyterian, reformed and/or church:

He is a Presbyterian first and an artist second, which is just as comfortable as trying to be a Presbyterian first and a chorus girl second.
    —H.L. (Henry Lewis)

To what a bad choice is many a worthy woman betrayed, by that false and inconsiderate notion, That a reformed rake makes the best husband!
    Samuel Richardson (1689–1761)

A State, in idea, is the opposite of a Church. A State regards classes, and not individuals; and it estimates classes, not by internal merit, but external accidents, as property, birth, etc. But a church does the reverse of this, and disregards all external accidents, and looks at men as individual persons, allowing no gradations of ranks, but such as greater or less wisdom, learning, and holiness ought to confer. A Church is, therefore, in idea, the only pure democracy.
    Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772–1834)
