Prehistoric Irish Battles

This is a list of battles recorded in the Annals of the Four Masters, written in the 17th century, as taking place in prehistoric Ireland. Many of the battles listed are purely mythological, and none are historically reliable. Other Irish annalistic and chronicle sources differ in their chronologies.

Famous quotes containing the words prehistoric, irish and/or battles:

    Of course
the New Testament is very small.
    Its mouth opens four times
as out-of-date as a prehistoric monster,
    yet somehow man-made....
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

For generations, a wide range of shooting in Northern Ireland has provided all sections of the population with a pastime which ... has occupied a great deal of leisure time. Unlike many other countries, the outstanding characteristic of the sport has been that it was not confined to any one class.
—Northern Irish Tourist Board. quoted in New Statesman (London, Aug. 29, 1969)

Have you heard that it was good to gain the day?
I also say it is good to fall, battles are lost in the same spirit in which they are won.
    Walt Whitman (1819–1892)
