Point of Ayr - Gas

Gas

Point of Ayr is also the point where natural gas from the Celtic gas-fields comes ashore and is processed and sweetened at a nearby plant. Gas is piped through a pipeline 33.5 km long from the Douglas Complex of gas and petroleum drilling platforms in the Irish Sea. The processing plant is part of the BHP Billiton development of the Liverpool Bay area. After processing, the gas is sold to Powergen, for their combined cycle gas turbine power station at Connah's Quay, on Deeside, in Flintshire.

Famous quotes containing the word gas:

A new father quickly learns that his child invariably comes to the bathroom at precisely the times when he’s in there, as if he needed company. The only way for this father to be certain of bathroom privacy is to shave at the gas station.
    Bill Cosby (20th century)

... when I awake in the middle of the night, since I knew not where I was, I did not even know at first who I was; I only had in the first simplicity the feeling of existing as it must quiver in an animal.... I spent one second above the centuries of civilization, and the confused glimpse of the gas lamps, then of the shirts with turned-down collars, recomposed, little by little, the original lines of my self.
    Marcel Proust (1871–1922)

Shielded, what sorts of life are stirring yet:
Legs lagged like drains, slippers soft as fungus,
The gas and grate, the old cold sour grey bed.
    Philip Larkin (1922–1986)
