Famous quotes containing the word flowers:

Vulgarism in language is the distinguishing characteristic of bad company, and a bad education. A man of fashion avoids nothing with more care than that. Proverbial expressions, and trite sayings, are the flowers of the rhetoric of vulgar man.
Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (1694–1773)

I know a bank where the wild thyme blows,
Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows,
    Quite overcanopied with luscious woodbine,
With sweet musk-roses, and with eglantine:
There sleeps Titania sometime of the night,
Lulled in these flowers with dances and delight.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

Eftsoones the Nymphes, which now had Flowers their fill,
Ran all in haste, to see that silver brood,
As they came floating on the Christal Flood,
    Edmund Spenser (1552?–1599)
