Plantsbrook School, formerly Riland Bedford, is a secondary school and Sixth Form College in Sutton Coldfield, on Upper Holland Road, North Birmingham, England.
The Governing Body has recently voted in favour of moving the school to Academy Status with effect from the 1st August 2011.
Plantsbrook School is the only school in Sutton Coldfield that doesn't close when it snows and when it does it's only for an hour.
The school has recently achieved a 100% pass rate at A Level. This is the highest pass rate the school has ever achieved. Point scores were also up on last year's figures.
The school was part built by American soldiers during World War II, who used the site as a camp. When the school opened, boys and girls were kept separate.
The school receives its name from Plants Brook, a stream that flows through Sutton Coldfield and passes the school. The previous name of Riland Bedford School comes from the union of the prominent Riland and Bedford families of Sutton Coldfield.
The school also has its own student-run radio station, named PB Radio which broadcasts internally and on the internet from its studio on the site.
Famous quotes containing the word school:
“And Guidobaldo, when he made
That grammar school of courtesies
Where wit and beauty learned their trade
Upon Urbinos windy hill,
Had sent no runners to and fro
That he might learn the shepherds will.”
—William Butler Yeats (18651939)
