Planaltina (Federal District)

Planaltina is an administrative region of the Federal District, Brazil.

With an area of 1,534 kmª (26.5% of the total area of 5,789.16) and a population of 147,114 (7.1% of the total of 2,051,146) in 2000, of whom 134,663 were classified as urban and 12,451 as rural. It is located in the east of the Federal District, approximately 43 kilometers from Brasília and can by reached by federal highway BR-40 (Brasília-Rio de Janeiro). Planaltina is by far the largest of the administrative districts by area and, with a population density of 95.8 per square kilometer, it is the second most sparsely populated.
