Pitt Street Mall

Pitt Street Mall is the pedestrianised section of Pitt Street in the Sydney CBD, Australia. It is one block long between Market Street and King Street and is one of Australia's busiest and most cosmopolitan shopping precincts.

Despite its small size, it hosts many flagship chain stores and more than 500 specialty stores. It is one of Sydney's main shopping streets, and floorspace rents are correspondingly the highest in Australia, and the fourth highest in the world in terms of city streets. In addition, CBRE rated Pitt Street Mall as the second most expensive street for retail rents in the world second to only New York City's Fifth Avenue.

Famous quotes containing the words pitt, street and/or mall:

The little I know of it has not served to raise my opinion of what is vulgarly called the “Monied Interest;” I mean, that blood-sucker, that muckworm, that calls itself “the friend of government.”
    William, Earl Of Pitt (1708–1778)

I mount the steps and ring the bell, turning
Wearily, as one would turn to nod good-bye to Rochefoucauld,
If the street were time and he at the end of the street,
And I say, “Cousin Harriet, here is the Boston Evening Transcript.”
    —T.S. (Thomas Stearns)

Finishing schools in the fifties were a good place to store girls for a few years before marrying them off, a satisfactory rest stop between college weekends spent husband hunting. It was a haven for those of us adept at styling each other’s hair, playing canasta, and chain smoking Pall Mall extra-long cigarettes.
    Barbara Howar (b. 1934)
